Even though Jakes had become a favourite at some of the
country’s biggest events he soon began to prefer the
atmosphere at some of the smaller, more intimate club nights.
Bristol’s Drive By night at the Thekla, Lakota and
Club Loco were just some of the clubs that adorned the MC
Jakes name on their flyers.
Jakes, alongside his compatriots in arms DJ Dazee and Felony
was hosting his own show a pirate station and performing
on guest slots for stations such as Radio One. In 1997 Jakes
toured Sweden with Felony to a very receptive audience,
so much so that he went on to perform in Sweden on several
further occasions. Apart from gigs in Sweden, Holland and
Austria MC Jakes successfully toured the United States with
Dazee and More Rockers.
After moving to London on demand, Jakes became the resident
MC for chart topping act, EZ Rollers. This partnership saw
his lyrical talent progress to another level when he recorded
his own vocals as part of several releases for EZ Rollers
and the now well established national act of Kosheen, (Decoder
and Substance).
Still in high demand, Jakes has earned himself a regular
slot at Scotland’s Club TNT and Welsh night, Escape.
More recently he performed at the popular super club in
London, Fabric.
With his vocals being used by EZ Rollers, Kosheen and several
of the nations drum and bass DJ’s, Jakes is sure to
further establish himself in a league of his own - MC, vocalist
and the prodigious talent that is – MC Jakes. |
