Bulletproof (Aka Jay Cyanide) is undoubtedly one of the
finest D&B talents to emerge from the Southern Hemisphere.
Until early 2005, Bulletproof were known as a production
duo hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, consisting of Jay
Cyanide (Known throughout New Zealand as Dj Pots) and production
partner Josh Lees, until the pair decided to go their separate
ways. Over the past 7 years the name "Bulletproof "
has stood for nothing less than the very finest in explosive,
futuristic dance floor Drum and Bass, and during this time,
Bulletproof released works on some of the scenes leading
labels.
Starting out with Guildfords Perspective Recordings imprint
in July 2000, and remixes for their Sister Label Aspect
throughout 2001/2002, Bulletproof soon began making waves
throughout the D&B community. It wasnt long before Bulletproof
had clocked up releases on ground breaking Imprints such
as BC Square One, Renegade Hardware, Moving Shadow, Commercial
Suicide, 1210 Recordings, Renegade Recordings, TOV, Red-light
Recordings, Industry Recordings, CIA Recordings and Critical
Recordings, to name just a few.
Not content with simply Producing and releasing their music
on well known UK labels, Bulletproof formed Cyanide Recordings,
as a platform to release their own music, as well as solo
projects and collaborations featuring some of the scenes
rising stars, and accomplished Drum & Bass producers.
This includes the likes of Konflict/Kemal & Rob Data,
DJ Optiv(Cause4Concern) , Concord Dawn, Agent Alvin, Psi-Dream,
Teknik & Dose, Dub Dragon, Pacific and Vector Burn to
name a few. Now upon the 20th vinyl release for the label,
Cyanide Recordings has stood the test of time. Jays collaborative
efforts include the likes of Dj Fresh)EIB(, Pendulum, Concord
Dawn, The Upbeats, DJ Optiv(C4C), to name a few, proving
that bulletproof is a outfit to be reckoned with.
Over the years, Cyanide Recordings has received accolades
for its role in the advancement of New Zealand music and
electronica, domestically and internationally. During this
time Jay (and former production partner Josh) has been cited
for accumulating the most domestic and world wide vinyl
releases of any NZ electronic musician.
After taking time away to raise his young family, producing
solo, and living in the beautiful "Bay of Islands"
in the far north of New Zealand Jays lifestyle has had a
profound effect on his music. With more room for personal
expression and experimentation, Jay has been hard at work
in the studio forging the next level in the bulletproof
sound. With a flurry of recent tracks catching the attention
and lining the crates of the likes of Adam f, Dj Fresh,
Bad Company, ED Rush, Optical, D Bridge, Pendulum, Andy
C, Diesel Boy , DJ Fierce, Concord Dawn, The Upbeats, Mayhem,
Agent Alvin, State Of Mind, Matrix, DJ Zinc, Bailey and
Mampi Swift, and receiving repeated airplay on several of
the major radio shows and web casts around the world, the
Neurofunk sound of Bulletproof has definitely forged a place
for itself amongst the crates of thousands of Dj's the world
over.
Apart from producing and maintaining the Cyanide Imprint,
Bulletproof's Jay Cyanide can regularly be found playing
his sound out to the masses. A long time veteran of the
New Zealand, and global Drum and Bass community, Jay started
out DJing hardcore and breaks in 93 around the city of Auckland,
New Zealand. After teaming up with other New Zealand Pioneers,
and taking on the Dj name of DJPots, Jay soon found himself
stepping up in front of packed warehouses, clubs and festivals
all over New Zealand and Australia dropping the very freshest
in the new sound emerging from rave culture known as Jungle.
Over the years Jay has toured throughout Europe, The United
Kingdom, North America, The Caribbean, and Australasia,
and has brought his sound to some of the worlds leading
clubs and venues. With close to 13 years experience behind
the wheels of steel, Jay holds the reputation for being
one of New Zealand's tightest DJ's.
